Closing Time

This is it, guys.

I started this humble blog at the beginning of 1L year, in the fall of 2007, when I was as anxious and excited and overwhelmed as everyone else in Section 12--by DC, by law school, by the prospect of being a "professional" and working toward a "career" and all those yuppie buzzwords that give us contemptuous thrills. Having this space available, and having a small but open-minded and dedicated (I like to think) audience, kept my nubile brain creative and helped me see the world through different eyes. I tried to think about my experiences in an articulable way, to tell them to you and experience some sense of sharing and solidarity. You were with me through exams, interviews, and cheesy lolcat jokes. You helped me solve the mystery of my identity thief, the fake sai sai. You listened to my bar prep nonsense. You shared my life over the last three years, and by being there, made me want to live it a little better.

A part of my life has ended. This is okay. Even though my memories are wonderful, and I have no idea what to expect from this next phase, I'm excited about what's to come. But I can't take this blog with me. It's a relic of a past time, and now it's time for me to move on.

I know I'll be on the internets somewhere; email me, or leave a comment with your email address, and I'll give you directions. That's Relevant will stay alive for just a little while longer and then melt away into the ether. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

The Future (woooooooooo)

Hello friends.

After that summer (that summer!), a long absence was warranted. From the bar exam we at TR helped our favored human become homeless, then became homeless ourselves, then took our homeless selves cavorting around this glorious world. Colorado and Chicago, Spain and Morocco--all are familiar to us now.

Big things are in store, big things. We are moving our lives forward! We are progressing! Things are happening! People, take this to the streets and sing!

And what next?

Blog not dead

It's been a busy few weeks. I had a few papers due (lots of writing this term--updates ahead) and generally just lots of life in a way I hadn't been having for a while. Plus, I've been reading more, and whenever that happens I get exposed to so many choice quotes that I can't pick which ones to post. It's a tough life, I know.

Since we're on this freaky quarter system, I have finals (!) coming up in a couple of weeks. Then the winter quarter will be over and the spring one will start and I get to do it all over again, while studying for the bar exam and, you know, not going insane, generally. Good times ahead.

So, dear readers, don't abandon us yet! Things always pick up when I have tons of stuff to procrastinate on, and with exams and the MPRE coming up shortly, there's no lack of opportunity.

I had a realization today, you guys!!

I like funny things. I read a lot of the Internet, and sometimes I come across funny things. I like to share said funny things, even though in many cases they are funny to me but awkward, uncomfortable, and at best unfortunate to the average person. Often the sharing happens via gchat status. But in a sad, sad twist of fate (so sad, you guys!) gmail only saves something like your last 3 status messages. This is too few storages to keep funny things that I may like to repeat at some point. I may have cried a little tear, maybe.

But then I realized something: I have a blog. And for the last few weeks I have known not what to do with this here dear blog. SO. You can see where I'm going with this, right?

Anyway, if you see absurd quotes that are totally out of context and seem to strike a chord in you that makes you want to find me, pat me on the head, and give me an IQ-slash-sanity exam, don't say I didn't warn you. Because I just did.

Pigeonholed

I just noticed that the last three posts were derived from the New York Times. Sorry 'bout the lack of variety, folks. I'll try to spice it up in the future. I'm really not a stooge of the liberal elite media, I swear.

Though I'll admit to being a judgmental asshole every now and then.

Maybe it's from being up ridiculously late (again) and drawing out the pain of this tax policy paper, but The Pioneer Woman's love story gave me a much-needed cry. Highly recommended when you've got an hour or three on your hands.

So I broke down and got a site meter. (See the bottom of the page.) I figured out how to stick the code into the template so it would track how many hits I got each day. And oh my lord! There are so many of you! Who are you? Where do you come from? How did you find me? Hey Mesa, Arizona! Hey East Lansing, Michigan! Hey Tao! (Wuhan was a dead giveaway.)

Anyway, I just thought I'd 'fess up and get my total amazement out there in the public record. I hope you are enjoying this weird blog. Please consider commenting. Now that I know how many of you are out there, the silence is a little creepy.

New links

My eight regular readers doubtless will have noticed the changes in the links to your right. While before that list was populated by more intellectual pursuits, the past couple of months have seen a marked shift toward entertainment of the more common sort. Now, along with your democracy, law profs, humanities, and news, we've got a selection of sports, food, friends, and of course celebrity gossip. I figured, instead of pretending to be into all brains all the time, I'd let this blog reflect the things I actually read.

For better or worse, there they are, displayed for your perusal and judgment in a neat little list. If any of you have suggestions for other good things to read, just leave 'em in the comments. I reserve the right to ignore your suggestions completely, or to steal your ideas and pass them off as my own.
