You never know what you'll find in the congressional record
On April 17, 1975, Senator Jacob Javits (R-NY) introduced S. 1450, "a bill respecting the decriminalization of personal, private use of marihuana." Supporters of the notion included William F. Buckley and Ann Landers. 121 Cong. Rec. 10,575-84 (1975).

It's a shame that the GOP has been hijacked by the religious right, because those members who are more into being practical about economic regulations and having government out of our lives have some good ideas. However, the GOP seems to be intent on pushing the moderates out, which will make us all worse off in my opinion.
It's happened on both sides, not just the right. Makes me sad. I'm looking for a new party, one that likes "good ideas" that, you know, "work."
you're correct. i didn't mean to imply the democrats were immune to this sort of thing.
